JOY L. CAVANAUGH, BSW, MA, LPC

Joy is a Licensed Professional Counselor with the State of Michigan.  She earned her Bachelors Degree in Social Work from University of Detroit Mercy.  She also acquired her Masters Degree in Counseling from University of Detroit Mercy in 2000.  In addition, Joy holds a Certification in Geriatric Studies. 

AREAS OF SPECIALIZATION

Joy has over 16 years of years of experience assisting  families in distress as well as individuals struggling with life challenges.  Joy specializes in grief and loss, depression, anger management, anxiety, chronic illness, learning disabilities, developmental disorders, self-harming behaviors, child and adolescent behavior issues, trauma, life transitions, parenting issues, self-esteem issues, LGBTQ transitioning challenges and their families. 

She works with parents, adolescents, teenagers and the senior population.  

Joy is a private practice clinician who is not affiliated with any other clinic or any type of agency. Therefore, she is able to offer a variety of affordable psychotherapy services for individuals, couples, groups and families.

Joy accepts direct payment at the time of service.  As a courtesy to consumers, Joy will bill for services rendered should consumers have manage care coverage which Joy is a panel provider.  

Joy also offers a sliding fee scale for those individuals who do not have insurance coverage or those consumers who choose not to utilize their insurance for any reason. Joy provides a Good Faith Estimate for all those who request one.

JOY'S PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT

There is a special place in my heart for those who are struggling with grief and loss be it anticipatory grief, death or life transitions to a decline in health. My mission is to assist in progressing through challenges, finding the lessons, regaining balance to continue moving forward.

If you have hit a rough patch and need help sorting things through you can be sure that I will provide you with a safe and caring environment. The atmosphere here is perfect for sharing and addressing concerns. I bring 16+ years of experience working with individuals and families.

My approach is holistic and person centered with an emphasis on collaboration. You will find me to be compassionate yet no-nonsense.

My philosophy comes from Dr. Martin Luther King JR: "I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you are supposed to be....."
